Mostly because this party created 'senior citizen benefits' (AOW) in the 50's. Although he agreed with some things throughout the years.. he still stayed loyal even after they did all kind of things to take away from those benefits. I very much believe in being loyal to people (friends, family, spouse/mate) but when it comes to political parties you have to judge them not for what they promise during election time/in opposition but for what they deliver when in government.
In Holland in the last election we had 50 parties joining in...10 of which really play a role in our political landscape, which is so divided that in general it always takes a three party coalition to form a government. So in general.. no one really gets what they voted for. That is a fact of life with coalitions.. but if we had one party in power I would definitely hold them accountable for making good on their promises while trying to win my vote. And even when it comes to our three party coalition I would hold you accountable for which one of the promises you made during election you actually delivered on.
Barbaranoreply@blogger.com
