How a Sovereign Group in Jamaica Is Fighting a US Mining Company

Image
I will agree with and will help the maroons fight the Mining Companies. I will help in any way I can to defend the environment. BUT The Maroons are not Sovereign. We do not have any State within a state. We are One country, One people, One set of laws.

From Greenspace to Concrete, Progress and Prosperity Yard Style

I always loved the Waterloo Roundabout and I started loving it more and more as the area around it became more and more developed. It was always lovely to come down or up Waterloo Road and see it because it represented a break from the congestion of the houses, townhouse and businesses. A nice open greenspace to remind me that Kingston and St. Andrew, is a green city. My only problem with the space inside the Waterloo Roundabout was that it was not turned into a lovely forested garden full of wild life. A nature reserve pleasing to the eye and general natural health. Growing up, the ground inside the Waterloo Roundabout was No-Mans-Land, since we were told that the site was an old Cholera burial ground and if we disturb the ground it would be hell on earth, so I feared it and I loved it. However, it was almost never overgrown, and the grass kept low. After breaking through the development and congestion of the Waterloo road corridors it was always a welcome sight for me. With...

Jamaica, 𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮

As many of you might know, I supported the development of an efficient and effective road network in and around Jamaica. I felt that this road network would provide greater opportunity for diversified commerce across the island. Just the reduction of travel times between major markets alone would be an impetus to economic growth. It would provide greater access to the various small villages and towns littering the interior of the island. It would open agriculture, tourism and other business opportunities in places that were inaccessible to people who wanted to invest. Jamaica’s cities and towns would be connected to a network of fast, modern road system. One of the major reasons why I supported the development of a fast, modern, efficient and effective road network is the hope that commercial and residential developments could be directed away from the already overcrowded urban centers of Kingston and St. Andrew, Spanish Town and Montego Bay. For many decades if not centuries, ...

Lack off Progressive Developments in Jamaica

Image
A Facebook group I belong to posted a picture of the Half Way Tree Transport Centre and declared how progressive and modern it was. Many posters commented about how First World a building it is and it shows modern progress. It got me thinking about the concept of progressive development and how that concept has changed over time. I am not a person who thinks a big pretty building with curves is automatically modern and progress because I am not that shallow. Progressive Development is so much more than just bulldozing our green space and replacing it with some concrete and glass, in my mind that is anti-progress. There was a time in human history during the Industrial Revolution when buildings with massive chimneys emitting millions of tons Carbon dioxide was also considered as progressive even though it blanketed the sky, turn cities grey and was killing the inhabitants of the city. That tells me the concept of progressive development involves so much more than concrete and gl...
