What is Required for you to feel Happy and Content?

Image
I often wonder what would be required for a person to feel Happy and Content. I know what makes one person happy and content, may not make another person happy and content. We might all live in the same country or on the same street or even in the same house, but we all have different life experiences, or we can interpret the same life experiences differently. For the most part our society conditioned us to believe that access to a continuous stream of increasing wealth and material goods is what is needed for a person to be happy and content. Children are being conditioned to equate material things with love. For example, some might think that they are loved, if their parents buy them the new iPhone and without it life is not worth living.   What I realized is that this conditioning is often the main source of our misery and unhappiness. No matter how much increasing wealth and material goods we accumulate. It is never enough and adds more complexity to our lives. The fear of...

Jamaica's Lack of Good Leadership and High Crime Rate

Image
The real problem facing Jamaica is a lack of good leadership. In fact, our leaders are the major contributors to our dysfunctional state as a nation. Even our current crime epidemic can be traced back to the selfish and greedy actions of our leaders. These so-called leaders will do and say anything, to satisfy their selfish need for power and that cannot be good for Nation Building because Nation Building is not about Political power. Nation Building is about progressive Empowerment of a people. I get nothing from our leaders, they do not fill me with hope or pride because they bring nothing of value to the table. It does not matter if these leaders are young, old, man or woman or educated, the result is always the same, the cycle of dysfunctional behavior continues. If the water in the well is dirty, then every bucket of water taken from that well, will also be dirty.   Our leaders lack the basic concept and understanding of Nation Building. They lack Imagination, Innovation ...

Jamaica Crime Scene Do Not Cross

How come we do not see videos of blood, guts and gore like we see in Jamaica from US and UK sources. There were at least 10 mass shootings across the US this weekend with 17 people dead and 33 more wounded and we have yet to see dead bodies being turbo blast all over social media. So far this year there have Been 194 Mass Shootings in the USA and I cannot describe one scene of these gruesome carnage. There was a shooting in Time Square New York with 3 Shot, Including a 4-Year-Old. There were 4 deaths in London following bloody weekend of shootings and stabbings and no turbo blast of these deaths to show blood and gore on social media. On Monday, May 10, 2021, In Chicago 27 shot, 5 fatally, in weekend violence and in a previous weekend in Chicago 46 shot, 7 killed. In Jamaica the various Whatsapp groups I belong to is bombarded with the most gruesome Jamaican content. Why do Jamaicans video tape gruesome death and destruction and spread it around the globe with such pride, are we tu...

The lack of Social Statistics and the callous disregard for Human Life

Image
I do not like crime or criminals but I understand certain crimes and criminals. I understand gang violence and I understand financial related crimes. I do not like it and do not want any crime or criminality around me but I can put certain crimes into perspectives. Up until now on hearing a report of a crime against some person, I would say, "something in a something". A person got caught up in some under the table, dodgy dealings with the wrong person and met some sort of retribution as a result. However, when it comes to crimes against children and old people, I am at a lost because I do not understand it and I cannot frame it into context or perspective. I am totally confused by it because I do not know what is gained from it and can only conclude that mental illness is more rampant among the Jamaican population than was previously thought. It is like they wake up every morning and drink "mad-puss-piss". This is nothing but a cold, callous disregard for th...

Hypocrisy and Hypocrites

Image
PRIME Minister Andrew Holness yesterday called for cooperation between the Government and the Opposition in dealing with crime. It would be easy for me to ask the question, why you did not offer this cooperation while in opposition and why you used crime as a political football during the election campaign. BUT as a nation we must at some point move crime out of the political arena and view it as a threat to national security that requires all hands on deck. NO party should be boasting that it alone can solve crime because that is a false statement to make as no political party alone can solve Jamaica's crime problem. I go even further to say that the Political class alone cannot solve crime and that all good people must stand together and fight this scourge on the land. Political parties must realize that a lot of the people they call political activist are in fact criminals and they must distance themselves from these people and bring them to justice. When you were in op...

Jamaica Crime Season: 2013-2014

Image
Jamaicans follow their local crime season like how the English football fans follow the English Premiere League Football season. We even try to keep daily scores while informing anyone who would listen of the latest murder score/rate, did you hear…. 6 dead in St. James, 8 dead in Spanish Town, 5 Dead in West Kingston… This goes on and on until the end of the season when the grand total is announced and we compare it to murders of seasons past.   … 1583, 1618, 1683 , 1428, 1124, 1087, 1198….. One would think that if Jamaica was under attack and it is, from our Home Grown Terrorist, … that a bipartisan consensus on crime coupled with a joint unified statement from the political class outlining their plan of attack on the criminal elements within our society and a support for the concept of us law abiding Jamaicans against them, the murdering criminals, would have been the strong natural reaction to this daily barbaric onslaught on the Jamaican people. But inste...
