Jamaica’s Lack Off Food Security
Jamaica’s Food Security and safety depends on our integrity, morality, self-respect, respect for others, personal responsibility and basic human decency. We are simply at the mercy of each other, especially since our food supply system lacks a standard nationwide process to protect us. Anything can be injected into the food supply at any stage of the process and we would not know. When it comes to food import we have no control, we gave all control to the exporting country and we are totally at their mercy to eat what they want us to eat.
BRASÍLIA, Brazil (AFP) – Salmonella steaks? Carcinogenic chemicals? Lying labels?
Brazil, the world's biggest beef and poultry exporter, has been hit by stomach-churning allegations of corrupt practices in its meat industry. Police have halted exports by 21 meat processers suspected of bribing inspectors to issue them bogus health certificates for rotten meat.

Jamaica's food security a sham
Jamaican’s over the years have become more materialistic, we have developed this sense of entitlement, greed, selfishness, nastiness, self-importance and a callous disregard for human life and our Environment. Money is our God and some will do anything to make it, everyone wants to own things that profiles our wealth because man-afi-eat-a-food. With characteristics like these, how then do we trust the very people around us to provide food security?
I have read so many incidents of Jamaicans selling bad food to their fellow Jamaicans. In Portland a bunch of idiots decided to poison the river so they can easily get the fish and then take these poison fish to the market for sale to their fellow countrymen and women. The river poisoning done with the use of hazardous chemicals, such as gramazone and bleach, instead of traditional fishing gear to catch fish. As a result, farmers experienced a disruption in the flow and quality of water from springs, while fish stock face decline.
Rio Grande Valley tackles river poisoning
"It affects you if you don't know the river is poisoned," said president of the Bowden Pen Farmers' Association, Peter Higgins.
"Say you are at your field working, and go and drink the water, it could kill you. It kills animals like that a'ready. Mi belly nearly kill me one of the time, is God save me," Higgins said, adding that "sometimes the people poison the river, but is weeks before we find out because we have so many rivers".
STOP RIVER POISONING
People have also been known to sell poisonous ackee that they forced open. Incidents of ackee poisoning is on the increase because greed will make people do the most disgusting things.

I have a friend who is disgustingly anti-Chinese and he regularly sends me video tapes to show me what the Chinese are injecting into our food supply, these videos are of dogs and donkey meat among other things. Now I am not saying that I believe him but it got me thinking how easy it is for people to contaminate our food supply because our food supply is not secure. If we cannot trust our own people then how are we going to trust outsiders.

'Imported Carcinogenic Plastic rice' reports prompt cessation of rice clearance — Customs
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Following reports of the distribution of ‘plastic rice’ in Jamaica, the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) is advising that it has temporarily ceased the clearance of rice at all ports of entry.
The JCA says it has convened a meeting with the relevant regulatory agencies, including the Bureau of Standards (BSJ), the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Health, and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), in order to verify the breach and the mechanisms for moving forward.
The meeting is currently taking place at the JCA’s head office, Myers’ Wharf, New Port East.
In the time being, JCA is urging the public to call them or the BSJ and report if they have bought this product or are aware of the place of distribution, so that steps can be taken for the removal of the product from the market.
