On one hand I LOVE THIS! I love these off the beaten path discoveries, tucked away in the middle of nowhere. BUT on the other hand, I do not like it because I fear for the survivability and sustainability of the places being discovered. Such a shame because we invented the term and concept of Yard and Yardie to mean something wholesome and comforting. It was invented out of love for our Nationality, Island and people. In Jamaica the term yard is used to identify a place of safety and comfort. You are out on the road and something happened and the first thing that comes to people’s mind is “Mi A Go a mi Yard, cause a pure almshouse out yah” so we retreat to the comfort and safety of our beloved yard… “hey that is why me stay a my yard more times” ...because bad things always happen outside of your yard. Then Jamaicans travelling started identifying each other in that comforting manner, “hey yu a Yardie?” was all its takes for the conversation and familiarity to start to flow. After a while everyone wanted to be a Yardie, even people who were not from yard and had no connection to yard started pretending to be Yardie, because it was cool to be a Yardie. When I am here When I am here , nothing else seems to matter, nothing else seems important when I am sitting here in this chair. When I am here , My stress is over there, somewhere, anywhere but here. Beyond the horizon, in a land far, far away, just stories on the evening news.  When I am here in the mornings, all I need is a nice cup of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, while watching the sunrise over the horizon. Listening to the sound of the sea, watching the gentle rippling motion of the waves as it slowly makes its way towards the white sandy shores. Enjoying nature as I watched birds eat a ripe mango that had fallen to the ground. When I am here , at midday after lunch, there is nothing like a cold Red Stripe beer while sitting here, ...yes here, right here, in this chair and When I am here, in the evenings, there is nothing like a glass of Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Rum served neat while watching the magical Caribbean Sunset.
