Happy Semi-Independence Day, as full Independence would mean the Republic of Jamaica and not the Monarchy of Jamaica, which is our official title. Semi-Independent Jamaica is 59. In the scheme of things and compared to other countries we are still in our infant stage as a country. Jamaica is a country with a lot of potentials, we could have achieved so much more as a people, if we only we were more disciplined and applied ourselves to the process of Progressive Nation Building. However, after Independence we did not think or operate as a collective, or for the greater good and in the national interest. For a while we tried the Social Engineering experiment and made some good improvements, but we abandoned Social Engineering and embraced the less unifying, “Every Man for Himself” capitalistic concept. If Jamaica had a referendum today, on adopting the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) and on becoming a Republic, I would gladly vote YES on both counts . The UK and the British Monarchy to me serves no purpose to our daily lives, it contributes NOTHING to our daily lives. Which is why, I am at a lost as to why we are still the Monarchy of Jamaica and have the Queen to the Right of Jamaica as Head of State. Every now and then one of those useless Royals stop by for a wave, put on a Rasta wig, act the fool and dance around and as a result, some idiots in Jamaica feel privileged for the little Royal attention and I wonder why. The Commonwealth is a useless and worthless organization. The Commonwealth adds no economic or social value or benefit to our lives and if it did not exist tomorrow nothing would change. YET we dance around these useless colonial institutions as if our lives depend on it. AND I WONDER ...WHY? I am thinking that, after 300 years or slavery and colonization we are...

A friend of mine recently sold his house packed up his family and furniture bought a new house in a different country and moved to that country/house, now he did not move because he hated his neighbors he did it because he wanted a bigger house, new life and better opportunities. He loved his old neighbors and will miss them dearly but sometimes “A man's got to do what a man's got to do, what he thinks his right”. I am beginning to get the impression that some people believe, that Jamaicans desire to become a republic is being done out of hate or spite for Britain or the Royal Family. Some in the media and various individuals seem more concern with creating controversy where none exist.
