Is Who Mash Up Jamaica? ... IT WASN'T ME!!

Image
It is clear that EmanciPendence is not a time for celebration, it is not a time to celebrate great milestones in history and bask in our greatness but a time for expressing great shame and throw blame. Not too long ago I posted a response on the Gleaner Facebook site declaring that every single Jamaican regardless of Geographic location, regardless of age and gender was responsible for the Social and Economic problems, condition and state of Jamaica. As a result of posting this I was bombarded with several responses from people declaring that they had nothing to do with what was and is happening in Jamaica. They had nothing to do with the condition of the country and the state of our society and economy. These people were not only declaring their innocence but started identifying individuals and entities who they consider was the real guilty culprits, the people who should be taken round back, placed against the wall and shot dead. One person declared it was the Ruling class, ...

The Greatest Countries in the World...The Law of Jante

Image
Let me first say that there is no country on planet earth, that I would apply the word "Great" to. None seems to fit the bill. Not even Great Britain who is great in name only and the last country I would apply the concept of great to. I often wonder why people consider America the Greatest country in the world. I guess it depends on how you define greatness and the fact that America loves to blow its own horn and declare its greatness to the world. In my view America is the most powerful country on the planet at this moment in time but it is certainly not the greatest country, not even close. Great Britain defines its greatness because it once hand a Global Empire. They are great simply because they had to ability to Conquer, to Invade, to Colonize and to Slaughter. To put in place the most profitable system of slavery and the extraction of other peoples wealth resources by force in order to enrich themselves. If their was a greatness scale, Britain woul...

Jamaica Chinese Invasion? Well it will not be an Invasion if we both Benefit!

Image
This is not our first Chinese invasion, on July 30 1854, the first large group of 267 Chinese immigrants came from Hong Kong, later that year 205 Chinese workers demanded to leave Panama fearing yellow fever, arrived in Jamaica on November 1 and 18, one of the ships was called the Vampire. A decade later in the 1860s another set of Chinese arrived from Trinidad and British Guiana and two decades later, in the 1880s, another group of 680 immigrants arrived, this time directly from China. Most were not welcomed at first with open arms by the newly emancipated slaves who saw them as competition. Over the many decades since then we have seen several mini-invasion and several cases of Chinese leaving Jamaica in mass for greener pastures in The United States and Canada, some claiming discrimination by local Jamaicans and others using Jamaica as a stepping stone to get to more fertile grounds overseas. Out Of Many Cultures, The People Who Came: The Arrival Of The Chinese The Chinese ...

Reality, Perspective and our Feudal Political Overlords

Image
Worshiping our Political/Feudal Overlords Honestly I find this hero worshiping of our Feudal like Political and Capitalist Overlords a bit nauseating, creating a God-like complex around these people is…. To say the least ...NUTS, just a tad bit retarded!!! A friend of mine, describes Jamaica’s Social and Political System liking it to the Medieval Feudal System of old. The relationship we have with these people is counterproductive. Portia Simpson Miller is not a Goddess or a Queen, Andrew Holness is not a God or a King and certainly Butch Stewart and Michael Lee Chin and people like them are not Gods to be worshiped. Jamaica’s Political Feudal/Monarchy The Jamaican political system is a democracy where our selection between who to vote for is very limited to a certain number of recycled people, our Feudal Overlords! What is amazing about Jamaica’s Political/Feudal/Monarchical System is that when a person is born they become familiar with Politicians who have a certain last ...

My Auntie and the Handyman, In the Land of Wood and Bottle Water...

Image
My Auntie hired a handyman to do various work around her house. On his first day on the Job he arrived very late with the excuse that he did not have any money for bus fare and had to borrow the money for it… My Aunt then asked if he needed something to drink before starting work, tea, coffee, juice, water and he requested water. My aunt went into the house and returned with a tall glass of ice cold water to which Mr. Handyman asked… Is that Tap water or Bottled water? My Aunt declared that it was refrigerated tap water to which Mr. Handyman responded that “he does not drink tap water but only drinks Bottled water”. My Aunt told him that she does not have any money to waste on bottled water especially since she is at home and that she drinks the refrigerated tap water because she finds nothing wrong with it since Jamaica’s water is not recycled but comes from various rivers, springs and underground streams. However she directed him to the nearest shop and told him he would ...

Strategic Taxation and Jamaica's Floss Giants!

Image
UDC 'Fireworks on the Waterfront' Watching scarce foreign exchange go up in smoke How does the Government decide what to tax and what not to tax and why? Are they just looking at their budgetary shortfall then look around the economy to see what they can make a quick buck from, in the shortest space of time? In my view Taxation should be strategically applied in order to protect local industry and promote growth both in the short and long term. One just cannot look at the productive sector, one that is adding value to our economy and society and gouge them out with taxes. Jamaica’s problem is well defined, we suffer from very low almost anemic productivity in almost all sectors and we suffer from a very large negative balance of trade. Jamaica imports in value over 5 times what we export in value and most of this over the top imports comes in the form of consumer goods, rubbish resulting in our Foreign Exchange problem. Any tax plan that is put in place should be targete...
