Weaponized Constitution, Courts and the People

Growing up in Jamaica, we were brainwashed into believing the USA system of Government, Constitution and laws was superior to any other system on planet earth. The average Jamaican knows more about the US Constitution and Bill of Right than they do about the Jamaican Constitution. It is not uncommon for them in a debate to quote the US constitution as if it was the Jamaican Constitution. The average Jamaica does not know one line of the Jamaican Constitution.

Imagine my shock and awe on finding out it is just as dysfunctional as most and more dysfunctional than some. Americans love to make their system of Government sound mystical and magical. Something unique and above all the rest. Like a self-aware and self-governing Artificial Intelligence that protects the biggest idiots from themselves. I remember a friend of mine describing the US Supreme Court as if it was controlled by super intelligent, omnipotent and omniscience beings, who were all knowing, Guardians of Freedom and Democracy across the Galaxy.

Guns is freedom and freedom is guns. It is everything to them

Once you start to understand that system, one quickly realizes it is a system that suffers from the same problem every other system of government and laws suffers from. It is only as good or as bad as the people running it. The US Supreme Court is a court like any other, in any other country because it is only as good as the clowns’ interpreting words on paper. Liberal clowns interpret it liberally and conservative clowns interpret it conservatively and extremist conservative religious clowns, just get jiggy with it.

The US constitution and any constitution in any country, like the bible, or Koran are fictional and theoretical documents that are only as good or as bad as the clowns elected or appointed to interpret it.

Speaking of Clowns
The Jamaican Constitution and Laws should exist to protect the population not only against the state but also from criminals. However, of late it seems our Constitution exist to protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding people and enrich defense attorneys. These are the only people who seem to be benefiting from it of late. Our defense attorneys and judges take their cue from high tech CSI Hollywood TV shows, while our prosecutors and police are trapped in our early 19th century unique crime solving reality. They are being asked to prove their cases using futuristic and scientific techniques not available to them. While only having access to hearsay, beggars budgets and antiquated tools.

Our Justice system seems to be satisfied with rounding up large numbers of our murdering criminals, then go through the motions of court cases, consuming taxpayers’ money, before dumping them back into society to slaughter any witness who testified against them. A process of revenge and reprisals. We enable criminals because every time they pass through the system they become larger than life, Teflon Dons.

Benevolent Dictatorship
I said it before and I will say it again, freedom and democracy are not for everyone. Freedom and democracy without discipline and a sense of not only personal responsibility but societal responsibility is counterproductive, destructive and anti-nation building. Jamaicans are not mature enough to handle responsibly Freedom and Democracy.

Jamaica could do well with a 5-year totalitarian dictatorship under a benevolent dictator. A benevolent dictatorship is a government in which an authoritarian leader exercises absolute political power over the state but is perceived to do so with regard for benefit of the nation and its population, standing in contrast to the decidedly malevolent stereotype of a dictator who focuses on their supporters and their own self-interests. In fact, our current governments management style seems to resemble the malevolent type, focusing on supporters and self-interest.

A benevolent dictator generally allows for some civil liberties and democratic decision-making as well as the rule of law to exist, such as through public referendums or elected representatives with varying degrees of power, and often prepares for increased democratization during or after their term. It might be seen as a republican form of enlightened despotism.

A lot of Jamaicans love to declare that Jamaica should be as developed as Singapore without having any idea what sacrifices Singapore had to go through to become such a powerhouse. Jamaicans wants Singapore’s success but wants nothing to do with Singapore’s sacrifices, discipline, hard work and responsibilities. The difference between Singapore and Jamaica is the people. The fact that Singapore is not burdened by having Jamaicans, who are mostly ungovernable.

Eat-A-Food

I was trying to explain to a person overseas the concept of Eat-A-Food. Being overseas the image in their minds is that of starving black people with flies on their faces begging for scraps. I told him yes that is the image they want to convey but as an excuse to justify the most disgusting almshouse actions under the sun. In Jamaica, Poverty is the mother of all excuses, and we try to find creative ways to express that excuse because it is beneficial.
