Happy Jamaica Day 2019

Jamaica is not the richest country on this planet. Jamaica is not a powerful country on this planet, we are not the movers and shakers off this planet and we have our fair share problems being a small, developing third world country with a history of slavery, colonization, subjugation and political tribalism. Regardless of what we are, I love my country,

I love the people from other countries who take the time out of their lives to get to know us, to understand us and to love us for who and what we are, many of whom call Jamaica home and have joined the nation building process. The objectivity of ๐’๐œ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ ๐‰๐š๐ง๐ž influenced how i express myself, the nation building spirit of Londinium ๐„๐ฆ๐ฆ๐š ๐‹๐ž๐ฐ๐ข๐ฌ fascinates me, I am in awe at her constant drive for change and progress in her adopted country. AND the luxury and privilege of learning and experiencing aspects of my own country and culture through the eyes and adventures of Canadian bacon I so appreciate ๐—”๐—ป๐˜๐—ท๐—ฒ's love of my rock and culture and her sharing her experiences with me. We are a welcoming rock and not just in a tourist sense of the word. No matter where you come from and what colour you are, you can make Jamaica your home.

Growing up in Jamaica was an experience I am grateful for. It is an experience I will never forget, never regret and I would never trade for anything. I cannot think of anywhere else in the world, I would rather have been born and bred. If life is about being happy, content and enjoying each experience as it comes then growing up in Jamaica for the most part was a happy wonderful experience for me. Now, I have the pleasure of looking back on my life and I now realize that the good times were so very good and the bad times … well they were not that bad, it made us stronger.

I have been fortune enough to have traveled and lived in various places outside of Jamaica. Fortunate enough to experience life in other countries, experience other cultures and people and while I am grateful for that experience, that exposure.

Jamaica is NOT perfect, far from it, ask any Jamaican because we are not bashful when it comes to highlighting our imperfections. We do not suffer from Delusions of Grandeur. But most of us can look past the problems and see the natural beauty of this country and her people. I have experienced meeting so many wonderful people around Jamaica and Jamaicans overseas. On a visit to some backwoods of Kentucky, I walked into a restaurant ran by a Chinese looking man. He looked at me and I looked at him because to me he looked out of place. The way he was dressed and walked did not fit into what I saw in the frightening backwoods of Kentucky. He then turned to me and said “Hey yu a yaadie” so I gave out a big Bumboclaat! boss weh yu a do ina dem place yah? We chat, laugh, ate and drank.

Jamaica is 235 km long, and its width varies between 34 and 84 km. With an area of 10,911 km and a population of 2,804,332 (2008).

Whatever you think of us, one must admit that for a small country, a tiny speck in the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica have always punched above our weight and size. There is no corner of the globe that have never heard of Jamaica. Our cultural influence on this planet runs deep. From sports, to music, politics, apartheid, cold war, non-aligned movements, fight against oppression, we have been in it at various stages playing our part however small or large.

A Special Thank you to Jamaica My Way

The luxury and privilege of learning and experiencing aspects of my own country and culture through the eyes and adventures of Canadian bacon "๐—ž๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ "๐—๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ ๐— ๐˜† ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜†" ๐—ž๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฟ, is priceless!

I can still remember the first time I found you on social media. I was hooked from day one. I needed to know where you were going next, what crazy things you were going to show me with your flask of Appleton rum...

You were not a tourist, I do not think you have ever been a tourist in Jamaica. A Traveler who adopts to the country, people and culture with such ease. You are more Jamaican than a lot of Jamaicans I know and you have been to places in Jamaica I never knew existed.

Thank you for allowing us to come on your many journeys and adventures. I am sure because of you many people visited Jamaica. I have nothing but Respect and Love for you. I am humbled, Thank you.
