Which makes me believe declaring It, is an election gimmick, a political ploy to appeal to those of us who strongly believe we should leave the Constitutional Monarchy, turn our backs on the British Monarchy, relegate it to the blood-soaked pages of our History and become a Republic.

I am a Republican, but I am open to any argument from anyone who can convince me that it is beneficial, in Jamaica’s interest to remain a Constitutional Monarchy.

Please provide a list of beneficial things Jamaica enjoys because of the current status quo and if we were a republic how would impact our ability to survive as a nation state.

It sure as hell NOT visa free travel because the UK is even deporting legal Black British residence or beneficial British investments because there are NONE!

NO KING!

Republicanism and the Monarchy has been the topic of much debate lately.

"Should we stay or should we go now?
Should we stay or should we go now?
If we go, there will be trouble
And if we stay it will be double
So come on and let me know" ... The Clash

What has become very clear to me, is that most Jamaicans do not really understand the actual relationship between Jamaica, the British Monarchy or between Jamaica and the UK. They have no detail knowledge of this relationship.

This lack of understanding does not fill me with any hope for the future. I now understand that Jamaica will never become a republic in my lifetime. That is because the people still believe the colonial perception of the British Monarchy. And the reason they still carry around these colonial perceptions is because as a society, we have never updated our knowledge base, detailing the relationship between Semi-Independent Jamaica and the Monarchy. Members of our Political class only use the issue of Republic to try and win votes and to add words to their manifestos.

The Government is asking people to make a choice about becoming a republic, without giving them the facts to properly make the decision. Many Jamaicans do not know the real relationship between the Jamaica and the British monarchy. So, in the absence of hard facts, they make up the relationship based on nothing but centuries of colonial perception.

In their minds The British Monarchy is financing Jamaica daily and without that financing we as a nation will fail. In their minds Jamaica is being funded by the Commonwealth and without that funding we will fail. In their minds there is no such thing true Republicanism or full independence away from the British Monarchy because the monarchy are the true owners of Jamaica and even when we become a republic we must still answer to the monarchy.

The problem is There was no attempt at educating the Jamaican people on the realities of our relationship. If the facts were known, then there would be less division because of less misconception. The town hall meetings are not enough. For one to understand that relationship, one would have to go through a mountain of documents. Where does the Monarchy’s responsibilities stop, and Jamaica’s responsibility begins. That is if the semi-independence of 1962 outlined any monarchial responsibilities.

  • What is the role of the Monarchy in the day to day economic and social operation of Jamaica?
  • Is Jamaica being financed by the Monarchy?
  • Just what are we getting and is it any more than what we already get from other countries like the USA or the EU?
  • Our Military is branded by the Monarchy but who finance the Military?

"Our Head of State, in the Monarchy of Jamaica: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith’, with the style of ‘Majesty’."..

The British did such a proper job Culturally Conditioning and subjugating the people, so much so, that the British do not need to take an active role in Jamaica. Colonial Cultural Conditioning have earned them the love of our delusional, mentally enslaved, flag waving black piccaninnies with watermelon smiles, as they take pleasure having their White Queen as Head of State and Colonial Overlord.

Jamaicans do not have any details about the modern, post-semi-independence relationship between Jamaica, the British monarchy and the UK. Our political class have never made any attempt to educate the people of Jamaica in that regard.

With this lack of Up-To-Date knowledge about our relationship, the Jamaican people just assume that we need our colonial overlords to take care of us and without them we will suffer. Foreign forces will invade us and our legal system will collapse, because we need the Monarchy to protect us from our black selves.

I have been told that the British is the only thing standing between us and dictatorship. I have been told that the British is financing the day to day operation of the military, courts and schools. It seems in these peoples minds we are the white man’s burden. These are all old-time colonial perceptions, but they are alive and well in 21st century Jamaica.

The British Monarchy draws from Jamaican coffers (tax payers) for support in the performance of Her Majesty’s duties when in Jamaica or acting as Queen of Jamaica (she bill us). Jamaican tax dollars pay for the costs associated with the Governor-General in the exercise of the powers of the Crown, including travel, security, residences, offices, ceremonies, and the like.

The United Kingdom for the most part wants nothing to do with us, except for us to import their rubbish after Brexit, like we use to do during colonial times.

Queen ELIZABETH II the Head of State of the tiny spice island of Grenada, the official title, Monarch of Grenada, a member of the Commonwealth Realm and yet the United States of America without her knowledge or permission invaded her domain. It seems Britain is truly a nation without power or street cred. Grenada was Britain’s responsibility to fix, not America’s. If a member of the Commonwealth Realm needed sorting out, needed to be invaded, then I expected The United Kingdom of Great Britain, the so called “Mother Country”, Protector of the Realm to do the invading and set wrong, right. I was embarrassed for both Britain and the Commonwealth as I watched an angry Margaret Thatcher after the US invaded, they looked so irrelevant.

Montserrat is a British overseas territory, a British colony, in July 1995 a volcanic eruption devastated two-thirds of that island, it looked like a barren lunar landscape as per the BBC. The people had to be evacuated and yet in the UK there was opposition from the UK public to the people of Montserrat being evacuated to Britain. Some members of the British public declared, why Britain, why not to the other Caribbean islands, somewhere else, anywhere else except Britain.

How some Jamaicans think about the UK is a carryover from slavery and colonial times, it is a perception that has no basis in reality. The very idea that Britain have the ways or the means or even cared enough to run to our rescue is laughable and provides a false sense of security to anyone who believe otherwise. Just look at the state of the commonwealth, a union without any union, without any sense of purpose or direction.

I quickly realized just how delusional most Jamaicans were, when the 2011 polls announced that 60% of Jamaica believe we were better off under British Rule and we should have remained a British territory. (an island wide survey among 1,008 delusional people). Even Jamaica’s semi-independence was a British idea as the UK set about trying to offload the larger colonies before they had to start investing in it. Nation Building of other countries is not a British concept. The British extract wealth and when they are done extracting wealth they discard you like yesterday’s trash.

I believe that the UK have enough home-crown Colonials/British operatives in Jamaica, willing to put British interest ahead of Jamaica’s Interest. These people have been brainwashed to believe that British Interest is Jamaica’s interest. At no point in our Historical Relationship with the United Kingdom have the British even considered or cared about Jamaica’s Interest except when they can profit from it.

When it comes to the Colonies, the British have a right to be arrogant because they know that over 300 years of beating the self-worth out of us and brainwashing us, will not be easy to get rid of in 56 years. I have no hope in my lifetime that Jamaica will see the UK for what it is. Jamaica is like a battered wife still trying to gain acceptance from our abuser.

I can assure you that my comment/opinion is not based on hate. In fact, the UK is my second-best place to visit on this planet and where I have met some of the nicest people on planet earth. This is not about individual personality but about a system that have exploited civilization for hundreds of years and have the ability for all those hundreds of years to control the narratives, to blame the people they invade, oppressed, enslaved and subjugate, for their predicament, their lot in life.

This is the day when the UK outsmarted Jamaica again. The Wealth Extracting Colonialism phase was over, and the nation Building phase was to begin. Jamaicans started demanding the UK do more by way of nation building, infrastructure development and human development. We started demanding Workers and Human rights. But that would require a reversal in the movement of wealth and as we all know, for the British wealth only flows in one direction. The British are wealth extractors and not nation builders.

In order to get out of any Nation Building commitment the British helped plant the seeds of Semi-Independence. We were on our own financially, even when the independence constitution was written to leave ultimate power with the British. There is a big difference between not having power and having ultimate power but choosing not to use it and the British Monarchy still have ultimate power without any financial responsibility.

The British Monarchy serves Jamaica no purpose whatsoever and it is time to put Semi-Independence behind us and become a Republic! Ultimate Power must come with Financial, Nation Building and Human Development Responsibility. Currently 33 of the 54 Commonwealth member states are Republic. Barbados is in the process of becoming a republic which will make it 34.

nopressurebutpressure: Might not be much downsides to staying but I'm sure there are down sides to leaving the Monarch, for one the many goodwill Aide will dry up, trade definitely affected, ease of travel possibly and maybe many more.
