Jamaica's Addiction to Social Media and Negative News

Image
An accident on Hope Road could be livestreamed, disseminated by orbiting satellites to every corner of the globe in seconds. A Jamaican living in Germany or Australia now has intimate, real-time knowledge of everything happening in Jamaica. Shown live and direct on smart devices over the would wide web. Jamaicans has fallen in love with smart phone technology and Social media. It is the first thing they reach for when anything out of the ordinary happens. Platforms from Porn hub, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook to Instagram are filled with Jamaican contents. Most Jamaicans would not reach for their phones to livestream or even record happy moments, such moments are not regarded as sharable. The contents that are mostly shared on Social Media must be off the highest shock value to generate the right amount attention and likes. There are lots of Jamaican sex videos on various sex sites, with death and destruction everywhere else, the more gruesome the better. The people taking the pictures an

Borrowing Chinese Money for Vanity Projects

Image
One thing about Chinese loans is that they never force you to borrow their money and they never tell you what to spend the borrowed money on. Their approach is more like; we have some money to lend you and so what do you want to build? In the past we have had strings attached loans from the USA and UK sources and they dictate what we can spend the loan on, like importing potatoes from the USA. Asking if you want a loan and what do you want to build are questions that can only be asked of and answered by, mature people with vision, innovation, and imagination. Because the answers to these questions must be centered around our collective needs as a society and not what we want. We see some African countries when faced with Chinese money, go directly to what they want bypassing their country’s needs. Angola decided to borrow Chinese money and built a huge mainly uninhabited city called Kilamba Kiaxi. Borrowing money to build vanity projects is dangerous especially when you are a poor

Techniques for Sharing your Sky Juice at School

Image
There are lots of things going on in this picture, that brings back so many memories of primary and high school in Jamaica. Here you have the sharer, the owner of the sky juice generously sharing his drink with the Sharee, aka the beggar-drinker. The Sharee the one the sky juice is being shared with, is not allowed to touch the sky juice in anyway. In fact, his hands should be by his side and if that was me, I would stop sharing my sky juice until he follows the rules by lowering his right arm and keep it by his side. I had my Sky Juice grabbed by my friend and he drank the lot before I could get it from it. After which everyone laughed their heads off at my expense.  Notice the intense look on the face of the owner of the sky juice, the sharer, while he monitors the drinkers suction and content extraction abilities. Also notice how the owner of the sky juice is holding on to both the bag and straw at the same time, it is called the valve technique. If at any time the beggar-drinker

COVID in Jamaica, A Crisis of our own Making

Image
Over the past couple days, I have watching various members of the Government and public expressing shock and dismay at how indiscipline Jamaicans are but I am shocked that they are shocked. It must have been pretend shock because they cannot be that delusional and disconnected, living in their ivory towers. During the pandemic Jamaicans sit at home and watched the advance healthcare systems of some of the world’s most advance countries buckle under the pressures of the COVID pandemic. With eyes open wide, Jamaicans continue to act like idiots throwing caution to the wind and ignoring the danger facing them. Compared to the healthcare systems of first world countries, Jamaica’s healthcare system is backwards. Jamaica's healthcare system is not fit for purpose even in normal times, much less during a global pandemic. But we act as if we are above it all, immune to COVID, listening to an idiot like Buju, that fake ass rasta declaring: " Who fi dead ago dead and who nah go dead ha

Jamaica: Making my Nunchakus

Image
The first time I watched the Bruce Lee movie, Enter the Dragon. I went home and decided to make myself Nunchakus. It was then that I decided that our mop was expendable as I removed the mop stick leaving the mop dead on the floor. Daddy was not a happy camper on discovering that he only had a mop, minus the stick but I had plans. By the time he found out the stick was already cut in several equal parts. The mop stick was not the only thing to be sacrificed because the dog chain/leash was perfect to connect the ends of my Nunchaku sticks, much to the delight of the dog. The chain was connected to the sticks using a U-shaped nail, some tape, and strings, if I can remember correctly. I am not sure why I am still alive today, because over the next several weeks I suffered several concussion-like blows, one of which split my head open. I also suffered blows to the back, stomach and groin area trying to use the Nunchaku like Bruce Lee.  I used to practice on the trees, but my favorite targe
