COVID in Jamaica, A Crisis of our own Making

Over the past couple days, I have watching various members of the Government and public expressing shock and dismay at how indiscipline Jamaicans are but I am shocked that they are shocked. It must have been pretend shock because they cannot be that delusional and disconnected, living in their ivory towers.

During the pandemic Jamaicans sit at home and watched the advance healthcare systems of some of the world’s most advance countries buckle under the pressures of the COVID pandemic. With eyes open wide, Jamaicans continue to act like idiots throwing caution to the wind and ignoring the danger facing them. Compared to the healthcare systems of first world countries, Jamaica’s healthcare system is backwards. Jamaica's healthcare system is not fit for purpose even in normal times, much less during a global pandemic. But we act as if we are above it all, immune to COVID, listening to an idiot like Buju, that fake ass rasta declaring: "Who fi dead ago dead and who nah go dead haffi just live" which is a callous disregard for not only human life but for Jamaican life. There is no love or livity in those callous words. 

At some point in our history, the Jamaican society stopped socially engineering the Principles of Personal Responsibilities, Accountability, Discipline, Respect, Morals, and Values into our society and that failure started with our leaders. The worst thing any leader can say is leave it up to the Jamaican people to decide what social engineering each individual things is important to them.

If we were socially engineered with these values, then it would allow us to make logical and commonsense decisions for the greater good of our society. Instead we are littered with ignorant and indiscipline people who are a danger to all of us. The idiots among us will be the death of us, COVID does not discriminate. COVID is not the only pandemic affecting Jamaica, ignorance and indiscipline has been spreading in Jamaica for sometime now and have taken hold. We are seeing the it all play out in real life, every day because we have normalized ignorance and indiscipline.

Personal Responsibility, Discipline, Morals, and Values is not something one is instilled with overnight. Politicians use and encourage indiscipline to get votes and now we need discipline and a sense of responsibility to save us from death and it is lacking. The Jamaican society does not know how else to behave because our leaders have never demanded accountability from our people and our people do not demand accountability from our leaders. The reason why, Jamaican people say yard nice, is because we are free to be as indiscipline as we wants to be. Especially if we can scream poverty and suffering as an excuse for our disgusting behaviour. 

In Jamaica we pay lip service to Accountability, Personal Responsibility, Discipline, Morals, and Values and in a country like Singapore they Implements the principles of  Accountability, Personal Responsibility, Discipline, Morals, and Values, which in a nutshell is why we will never achieve the things Singapore achieved.

Then, when fire deh a mus-mus tail, we are suddenly demanding Accountability, Personal Responsibility, Discipline, Morals, and Values to just magically manifest itself within society and save us from ourselves. Accountability, Personal Responsibility, Discipline, Morals, and Values are things that must be instilled into society over time, over many generations. These principles must be consistent and predictable to become the norm, making sure young people know what is expected of them as adults. So it can become learned behavior generating predictable nation building automatic responses to the challenges we face. 

But this is like trying to make a car go without fuel, it is just not going to happen or like a rock rolling down a hill without any control. The people are simply not socially engineered to respond in any sensible, socially cohesive way to the problems we face as a society. Things have gotten so bad that the people themselves do not even know or care to know of the problems they face. It is as if they were Genetically Modified and that ability was bred out of them. 

This lack of accountability and social engineering is by design because it is a the fastest way to political power. Any attempt by anyone to demand accountability or to implement social engineering, is almost always met with cries of oppression and infringing on individual rights.  

I cannot help but to remember our leaders during election time, dancing around in the streets with people, in the middle of a global pandemic, looking for votes. Everyone dressed in their colours, green and orange Clarks encouraging slackness and almshouse for power and glory! Now we see them one after the other pleading with the Jamaican people to comply with COVID protocols.

The worst thing anyone can say is leave it up to the Jamaican people to decide what is best because it implies a certain level of intelligence among the population that outweighs ignorance and lack of intelligence within society. Ignorant people will almost always choose ignorant solutions, which will make the problems worse. Jamaica is Ignorant Heavy!
